IPH welcomes the launch of ROI’s Health Research Board’s new Strategy 2016-2020 (19 January). The strategy pledges to embed research at the core of the Irish health system and commits €250 million to drive greater innovation in clinical practice, health service design and delivery.

A year long study of Irish third level students has found that 64% are highly active and are more active than the general population across comparable age groups.  The Student Activity and Sports Study Ireland (SASSI) of over 250,000 third level students was launched 25 February 2016 by Student Sport Ireland at its offices at the National Sports Campus.

The Institute of Public Health in Ireland (IPH) and partners will host an all-island conference Knowledge 4 Health on Wednesday 25th May at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Dublin (10am - 4pm)

A new report estimates that 16% (11,200) of 3 year-olds in the Republic of Ireland have had an accident or injury requiring hospital treatment or admission. The report released today (Wednesday 09 December 2015) by the Institute of Public Health in Ireland (IPH) shows the prevalence of injuries and accidents as well as highlighting risk factors such as gender and whether a primary carer has a longstanding health condition.

The estimates are based on analysis of results from the Growing Up in Ireland study (2011).

A new report estimates that over half of 7 year-olds (53.2%) in Northern Ireland have one or more longstanding health conditions.  The report published by the Institute of Public Health in Ireland (IPH) today (Wednesday 9th December 2015) found that asthma (22.9%) and eczema (26%) were the most common conditions reported by carers followed by sight (16.8%) and hearing (8.3%) problems. The report also estimated that boys are 1.7 times more likely than girls to experience asthma or asthma-like symptoms.
