Analysing variations in health expectancy - seminar presentations available

A recent report by the Centre for Ageing Research and Development in Ireland (CARDI) entitled Illustrating Ageing in Ireland, North and South found that since the 1920s the number of years males can expect to live rose by about 20 years while the number of years females can expect to live rose by about 24-25 years.  It is not clear, however, if these years of life gained are lived in good health

IPH-HSE seminar "Building a Learning Health & Social Care Service: The Role of Evaluation"

On October 26th, 2010 the Institute of Public Health in conjunction with the HSE hosted the Building a Learning Health & Social Care Service: The Role of Evaluation Seminar which was held at Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, Dublin 8.

Speakers from the HSE included Dr. Davida De La Harpe, Dr. Emer Shelly and Dr. Marion Rowland. We were also delighted to have Dr Dale Webb.  Dr Webb is Director of Evaluation and Strategy in The Health Foundation, an independent charitable organisation working to improve the quality of healthcare across the UK.

Inequalities in Mortality 1989-1998

This is the first all Ireland mortality report for 80 years and provides information on patterns of mortality by age, gender, geography and socio-economic class.

Based on the methodology used in 'Inequalities in Mortality 1989-1998. A report on All-Ireland mortality data' this report compares mortality in the cross-border CAWT region with the rest of the island.

Youth suicide prevention - an evidence briefing

Youth Suicide Prevention - an evidence briefing, is a joint venture between the Health Development Agency (HDA) in England, the Institute of Public Health in Ireland and programme for Action for Children in Ireland and aims to identify all systematic reviews in this field, and to analyse and combine the evidence to highlight what measures work to prevent youth suicide.
