What determines the food choices we make? Lessons from health economics and life stories perspectives

A key challenge for those working to improve the diet of those living across the island of Ireland is to understand what underpins the food choices they make.  IPH, HRB Centre for Health and Diet Research and the Centre of Excellence for Public Health (NI) are hosting a joint workshop looking at these challenges and to explore individual food choices from two quite different perspectives.

Global collaboration required to tackle ticking bomb of diabetes

What is the condition from which, by conservative estimates, one in 10 Irish people aged over the age of 45 already suffers?  The answer is diabetes. It is a disease that is increasingly becoming one of the greatest threats to our health as well as to healthcare systems.

European health report: improvements in health but inequities remain

While overall health across the WHO European Region has improved,  statistics show inequities within and between countries, according to the WHO/Europe's key publication issued every 3 years.

Young Men and Suicide Project Report

This report was launched by the Men’s Health Forum in Ireland (MHFI) on 23 January 2013. The report highlights the main findings from the all-Ireland ‘Young Men and Suicide Project’ (YMSP). The aim of the project was to identify a range of possible means to promote positive mental health among young men on the island of Ireland.
